At the East Coast’s largest advanced design and manufacturing event, the cult icon will discuss a range of topics that span his experience at Apple, as well as today’s leading tech trends such as robotics, IOT, wearables, and Big Data, among others.

UBM’s Advanced Design and Manufacturing event will take place on June 13-15, 2017, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York, NY. The event is comprised of six expos presented alongside one another, including Automation Technology Expo (ATX) East, Design & Manufacturing (D&M) Atlantic, EASTPACK, Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) East, PLASTEC East, and Quality Expo.

“I am really looking forward to speaking at UBM’s annual Advanced Design and Manufacturing event in New York. This seems to be the conference when it comes to innovation and design within the manufacturing field,” said Wozniak. “During my session on June 13th, I look forward to offering insight into emerging trends in technology and how those may impact design and manufacturing.”

Meet the Keynote: Steve Wozniak, Co-Founder, Apple Inc. and Chief Scientist at Primary Data
Steve Wozniak has helped shape the computing industry with his design of Apple’s first line of products the Apple I and II. He began his career in 1976, when he and Steve Jobs famously founded Apple Computer Inc. with Wozniak’s Apple I personal computer. The following year, Wozniak introduced his Apple II personal computer, which was integral in launching the personal computer industry. In 1985, Wozniak was awarded the National Medal of Technology by the President of the United States for his achievements at Apple, which is considered the highest honor bestowed on America’s leading innovators.

Wozniak has been a Silicon Valley icon and philanthropist for more than thirty years, and has been involved in various business and philanthropic ventures, focusing primarily on computer capabilities in schools and stressing hands-on learning. Making significant investments of both his time and resources in education, he adopted the Los Gatos School District, providing students and teachers with hands-on teaching and donations of state-of-the-art technology equipment. He also founded the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and was the founding sponsor of the Tech Museum, Silicon Valley Ballet, and Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose. In 2014, he was awarded the Hoover Medal, a prestigious honor given for “outstanding extra-career services by engineers to humanity,” and was inducted into the IndustryWeek Manufacturing Hall of Fame.

Today, Wozniak serves as Chief Scientist at Primary Data and is a published author with the release of his New York Times best-selling autobiography, iWoz: From Computer Geek to Cult Icon by Norton Publishing.

“It is an honor to have the prestigious thinker and innovator Steve Wozniak headlining our New York event as the Keynote Speaker. 2017 continues to be a strong year for education and content at UBM’s Advanced Design and Manufacturing shows that began with TV personality Jamie Hyneman and automotive industry visionary JB Straubel earlier this year. We look forward to continuing this trend throughout 2017 with the exciting addition of Wozniak to the lineup,” said Nina Brown, Vice President, Events, UBM.

During the ceremony, Design News will present a Lifetime Achievement Award to an engineering luminary who has made extraordinary contributions to the field during his or her career, as well as to a Rising Star engineer whose career shows tremendous opportunity ahead.

“When we talk about the renaissance of design and manufacturing, it isn’t an either/or. We must look at the two as a joint unit, and we must recognize the engineering behind that. At the Golden Mousetrap Awards, we celebrate the innovative people, companies, and technologies that further both product design and manufacturing,” said Suzanne Deffree, Content Director and Editor in Chief, Design News. “We do hope to see you at Anaheim this February, not only at the Golden Mousetrap awards to be celebrated but as an engineer who deserves to continue their own growth through networking and the inperson learning opportunities the event will provide.”

Finalists in each category will be announced in January 2017, and winners will be revealed in a live ceremony on February 7, 2017, which runs alongside UBM’s Anaheim design and manufacturing event. Winners and finalists will receive exposure in a national campaign promoting the awards, the right to use and display the special Golden Mousetrap finalist and winner logos on packaging and promotions, and media coverage by Design News.
